The darkness that Dr. King refers to can symbolize many things today and the hate he mentions is as strong today as it was four decades ago only we are dealing with a different kind of hate. In todays world, darkness is apparent every corner you turn, with the daily atrocities cosmos committed in southern Sudan and the ongoing conflict in Iraq fortune as prime examples. Over 30 countries are actively meshed in civil war, and there is the constant threat of another and more than deadly terrorist attack anywhere in the world. When Dr. King said light can drive out darkness, he was referring to solving crisis in a diplomatic manner. Dr. King preached, and practiced nonviolence during the civil rights movement because he believed in the power of people to make a difference more than he did in the power of arm...
